Is The NFL Going “Type A”?
18 November 2006

Reports indicate that NFL coaches Mike Nolan and Jack Del Rio will be donning suits this weekend. When New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick (notorious for his disheveled sideline look) was asked if he would trade his “hoodie” for a suit, he responded:
“I didn’t even know it was an option,” Belichick said. “I think it’s great, really I do. When you think back to the Paul Browns and the Vince Lombardis, Tom Landry and guys like that, their busts in the Hall of Fame, George Halas, you can practically see them. I think it was really a signature for some of those coaches. … If I had an option to wear one, would I consider it? Yes, I would definitely consider it.”

Give the NFL A+ for the suits. Perhaps sloppy pastors who don’t wear suits in their pulpits will get the message.
It sounds like Belichick’s contract keeps him from wearing a suit on the sidelines. However, he really needs to dump that stupid “gray hoody.” He would have looked a lot better in a gray Jets hoody!
The NFL is just going the way of the NBA, only I think it would be a little harder to enforce, since most NFL games are exposed to the elements, and suits weren’t made to withstand those.. at least long-term..
actually, NFL coaches were prohibited from wearing suits for a number of years, after dan reeves stopped coaching, since he was the last fella to wear one. i think now they can only wear one for two weeks a year because of endorsement contracts. so i don’t think they’ll ever go the way of the NBA.
Does it change matters that these suits that Nolan and Del Rio were wearing are made by Reebok? Seems like Reebok would be happy to have the NFL help them sell a few if they’re really getting into the suit making biz.
